Friday night if you just look up around midnight you'll see an event that you won't see again for 30 years. A rare harvest moon on Friday the 13th right around midnight. Now if that's not the perfect storm for a horror movie plot I don't know what is.

So what is a harvest moon? To me it sounds like a moon that's really bright, and in olden times before electricity farmers would harvest crops in the moonlight. Well, that's kinda right.  According to the The Farmers Almanac a Harvest Moon is a full moon that happens closest to the autumnal equinox and yes it coincides with the fall harvest and did aid farmers in bringing in the crops.

NASA says that there won't be another Harvest Moon on Friday the 13th until August 13, 2049.

So do what I'm going to do Friday night, get a roaring fire going in the fire pit, crack a cold one and check out the harvest moon. Oh, and be on the lookout for Jason Voorhees!
