Albany Inmate Injured While Trying To Escape Jail

Yesterday an injured escapee was returned to jail after tasting freedom for a short period of time. An inmate who was being detained at the Albany County Jail made a brief run for freedom, but it did not last long.

Officials with the Albany County Correctional and Rehabilitative Services Center report that 25-year old Pharoah Mangroo escaped from the jail by scaling two fences on Tuesday. One of the fences contained “Constantine wire”, the razor-sharp blades that we see surrounding prison yards.

Mangroo Was originally arrested in April of this year with charges of Criminal Contempt, Criminal Mischief, Menacing, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
He was released from jail pending court action, but he was free for long.

Shortly after his release, he is accused of assaulting someone in New Jersey. Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple said that the assault was severe. Sheriff Apple said Mangroo, “Created an extreme indifference to human life and caused serious bodily injury to another person.”

Mr. Mangroo left New Jersey, but he was arrested in the Town of Colonie on July 19 by the U.S. Marshall’s and remanded to the county jail.

On Tuesday Mr. Mangroo hopped over the fence surrounding the county jail, but was recaptured the same day. Escape has been added to his list of pending charges.

Mr. Mangroo was taken to the Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment. He suffered from minor injuries including the lacerations that he received while scaling the Constantine wire around the jail. He is still in custody for now, but who knows what he will be up to next.
