Alex Trebek Wanted This Person As His Replacement
The late Alex Trebek is one of the most popular game show hosts in American television history. Although legendary contestant Ken Jennings is scheduled to host shows starting next week and popular television anchor Katie Couric is scheduled to host shows later this month, neither one was Trebek's choice to be his successor.
Alex Faust was Trebek's choice to replace him once his career ended. Sports fans are likely to be familiar with Faust's career. In this 2018 interview Trebek tells TMZ's Harvey Levin that he told his producers that they should consider the broadcaster of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings for the job. At the time, that was a twenty nine year old Faust. Faust did hear about the compliment in 2018 and shared this message on social media.
Faust will continue his career as a sports broadcaster, rather than the Jeopardy show host for the near future. The Los Angeles Kings begin their season on Thursday January 14th against the Minnesota Wild. Puck drop is scheduled for 10pm eastern. The second person Trebek mentioned in the 2018 interview was Laura Coates. Coates has continued her work as CNN's legal analyst into 2021. Coates shared this message in 2018 when she found out the news Alex Trebek considered her as his potential replacement.
The eighty year old Trebek passed away this past November. Jeopardy has yet to announce a permanent host for the show's future. Alex Trebek's final episode hosting Jeopardy will air tonight at 730pm on ABC 10.
