The Capital Region and all of New York state have been without movie theatres for months now. An announcement has been made that would close down Regal Cinemas indefinitely. But for now, they will remain closed in the US and the UK. According to WGRZ.com, Cineworld which runs Regal Cinemas across the country announced it is closing all five hundred forty-three of its theatres. The last straw was the push back of the new James Bond film.

Variety has reported that since the new James Bond film, "No Time To Die" would not open until April of 2021, they are forced to shut down all of the Regal Cinema theaters. Even though our theaters in New York and the Capital Region were already closed with no reopening date, it looks as if they may never be able to reopen.

In New York state, there are forty-four Regal Cinemas. According to TimesUnion.com, most of the movie theaters are tied to malls which, if they were to close for good would most likely be a huge detriment to the malls that are already struggling. There are Regal Cinemas in Clifton Park, Queensbury, Colonie, East Greenbush, and Albany.

Regal Cinemas is the second-largest theater chain in the country. They say they have lost one point six billion dollars in just the first half of 2020. There also has been the struggle of movie companies not releasing movies to theaters and doing some on streaming services. The closure of Regal Cinemas could also delay the release of other major movies like Disney/Pixar's "Soul", that was supposed to be out in November, plus "Dune" and "Wonder Woman 1984" that was supposed to be released in December.

Some states that have already opened their Regal Cinema theaters will be closing them down this week. There is a chance that they may never be able to reopen because of the pandemic, but the company is hopeful that late in 2021 they will be able to show movies again.
