Bacon Festival Closes Roads In Upstate New York

Americans love bacon. According to the U.S. Census data and Simmons National Consumer Survey, 268 million Americans consumed bacon in 2020, with over 16 million eating five pounds of the pork product or more during the year. Stack up 5 pounds of bacon on a plate some day and you'll be amazed how much bacon we enjoy. Starting Thursday, our favorite smoked pork delicacy will be creating traffic issues for one Upstate New York city.

The Syracuse Bacon Festival is this weekend and roads will be closed starting on Thursday to handle the expected traffic. According to the festival website, the Smithfield Bacon Festival will feature dozens of vendors serving bacon-inspired treats. Each vendor is required to feature items that contain bacon on their menus. Savory selections, such as bacon burgers, bacon mac n’ cheese, bacon-wrapped scallops, and bacon sundaes, will surely make any traffic memories fade away.

Roads in downtown Syracuse will close starting at 1pm on Thursday for the Bacon Festival according to a news release posted by the city. Rylee Kirk of syracuse.com noted that the following roads will be effected: Clinton Street, from Genesee Street to Washington Street. Erie Boulevard West, from Clinton Street to Franklin Street. West Water Street, from Clinton Street to Franklin Street will become a two-way street.

The Syracuse Bacon Festival begins Friday at noon. Festival attractions will include the non-stop music played by local musicians, an activity zone, wine slushies, ice-cold beer, and a photo booth. That all sounds awesome but the main attraction may be just enough to get people there. It should be a beautiful weekend to enjoy some bacon.
