I love that Whitehall, New York is the self-proclaimed "Bigfoot Capital of the Northeast."  I love even more that the small town in Washington County officially adopted the hairy mythological beast as their official animal.  Residents have embraced it and so have out-of-towners who come to the Adirondacks in search of any evidence that may prove that this elusive, social distancing master really does exist.  One of my favorite things to look forward to was the annual Sasquatch Festival and Calling Contest.  While I personally have never been to one, this may be the year.

Last year, the annual event was canceled due to COVID, but this year the town has announced that it is back - bigger, hairier, louder and a lot less pixelated than the photos that supposedly prove it's existence is not a hoax.

In a Facebook post earlier this month, it was announced that after a year hiatus, the event is back.  Promising food, live music, drinks, researchers, contests and Bigfoot gifts, the 5th installment will be held in early fall on September 25, 2021 in Skenesborough Park.

Check out these incredible highlights from the Sasquatch Calling Contest held in 2018.

According to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) the counties in the Capital Region with the most Bigfoot sightings ever are:

Warren -13
Washington -10
Rensselaer & Fulton Counties - 3
Albany and Columbia Counties - 1
Warren and Washington Counties make up roughly 33% of the New York's total amount of Bigfoot sightings which isn't unusual considering all the forest up that way. And let's not forget that Village of Whitehall (Washington County) named Sasquatch their community animal and hold annual Bigfoot festivals there.
