People who bought chicken products, like chicken breasts, wings, and whole fryer chickens, over the last decade could be eligible to receive payments as part of a class-action settlement totaling $181 million.

Now, I don't understand all the lawyer lingo, but the gist that I get is that a group of chicken producers got together and decided to do some price-fixing and kept the prices on chickens higher than they should have been. Those higher prices were then passed on to consumers and that's where our "settlement" comes from.

The companies named in the lawsuit are Fieldale Farms Corporation, George’s, Mar-Jac Poultry, Peco Foods, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Tyson Foods were named as defendants in the settlement. None of the companies have admitted any wrongdoing, but have agreed to pay out a ton of money to settle the lawsuit.

Basically, if you bought any chicken products from these companies over the last ten years from  Jan. 1, 2009, through Dec. 31, 2020, you are eligible to receive money from the settlement. New York is one of the eligible states in the settlement. Other states include Eligible states include California, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Wisconsin.

So, what do you need to do to get your share of the $181 million settlement? All you need to do is check your eligibility and submit a claim online by Dec. 31, 2022, at www.overchargedforchicken.com or by calling 1-877-888-5428.
