Does your Capital Region town dispose of your Christmas Tree for you? Do you need to make special arrangements? Can you throw it in a dumpster or in the woods? Hopefully this guide helps you.

First, when is a good time to take down your Christmas Tree? Traditionally, the twelfth night, or 12 days after Christmas, represents the true end of the festive period. According to House Beautiful it might even be bad luck to leave it up past those 12 days. That would mean Tuesday January 5th or Wednesday January 6th are the appropriate days but who takes down their tree on a Tuesday or Wednesday?

If you took down your tree over this past weekend or are planning on doing so next weekend here are a list of Capital Region towns and their policies.

Clifton Park - County Waste will collect between January 11th - January 15th

Colonie - Town trucks will collect from now until February 26th

East Greenbush - Town trucks will collect until January 15th

Malta - You have until January 8th for town collection. After that you may drop your tree off at the Malta Highway Department

Dumpsters.com has some great general suggestions for tree disposal and ways to recycle your tree. For the last several years I placed our tree into the woods behind our home for the birds to enjoy.
