COVID Vaccine Proving To Be Very Effective In Former Hotspot

Nursing homes showed just how dangerous COVID could be, and now they are showing how much the vaccine is keeping the virus at bay.

After nursing homes were basically completely locked down to protect our seniors from COVID, the effectiveness of the vaccine with nursing home residents is really a great ray of light of how things may turn out for the general public once the majority of folks get vaccinated.

According to a CBS 6 story, nursing homes have seen a 96 percent drop in cases of the virus since vaccines started being administered in late 2021. As far as the numbers go, in late December there were about 30,000 cases in nursing homes, and that number has dropped to 1,349 cases. CBS 6 also says deaths have also dropped significantly, falling 91 percent in the same timeframe.

First, it is great to hear our seniors in homes are in a much safer spot at this stage of the pandemic. Also, I am not a Doctor, but this seems like a really good sign of things to come in the months ahead for the general public. Scientists can research, and we can read and learn all we want about the effectiveness of these vaccines, but the proof lies in the data. To see these significant improvements in an area that was once a danger zone for COVID has to be a positive sign that the general population should see similar results as more and more Americans get vaccinated.

Let's hope this same effectiveness plays out as vaccine eligibility continues to open up in the coming weeks.
