It's Friday night, the kids are in bed, and you're watching some late night TV to unwind after a long week and there it is:

Crossgates Mall.

Jimmy Loves The CR

Crossgates isn't exactly what you expect to see being trolled on one of the most popular late night shows, but Jimmy Fallon has pretty strong Capital Region ties. He's a College of St. Rose graduate and hasn't been shy about giving shoutouts to and poking fun at people and places in and around Albany.

So Why Crossgates?

Here's the setup: Jimmy announces mid-monologue that with online shopping levels dropping to pre-pandemic levels, the great American mall is trying to reclaim its former piece of the commercial pie and lure people back. Their target? Gen Z. Their bait? Some definitely not misused and outdated slang and their greatest selling point:

Heck yeah, fountains full of coins. The Tonight Show then goes on to cover mall stapes like Hot Topic, Claires, Sbarro, and the mall's premium solution to stairs - escalators. (Don't act like you didn't love the escalators as a kid, despite the rumors you'd get sucked under if your shoelace got caught.) Then at the end, you get the tag: Paid for by Crossgates Mall in Albany, NY.

Not a bad gig, being the face of the American mall. And maybe Jimmy's ad will work and get Crossgates some sweet, sweet Gen Z cash. What's not to love about Crossgates? (I know what half of you are rushing to the comments to say right now. Don't do it. Let them have this moment.)

Of course, true 'Gaters probably noticed some false advertising thrown in for good measure - Crossgates doesn't have a Jamba Juice. They're on Orange Julius turf. (Which is better anyway. Fight me.)

And in case you're wondering, yes, Crossgates has seen the video. Maybe there was a tiny sting to their pride, but it seems they're doing a good job of hiding it.

P.S. No offense to Jimmy, but lifelong Crossgates afficionados know that whatever The Tonight Show and their writers can throw at the institution, no video will ever beat this absolute masterpiece.
