Cuomo Adds Rhode Island to Travel List, Removes Some Others

Another day, another update to the New York Covid-19 quarantine travel list. Well, actually I think the more formal name is the 'travel advisory list'.

Either way, there's updates. It seems hard to keep up with since each day it seems like something is changing. The latest update is the inclusion of Rhode Island to the travel advisory list. However, two locations have now been removed- Washington D.C. and Delaware.

According to CBS 6 Albany, to make the list a state has to have a positivity rate of Covid-19 of 10% or higher, based on a 7-day rolling average. I understand the reason for the restrictions, but I will absolutely say I've already seen these rapid changes become a HUGE mess in the workplace for essential workers (as I work both in a healthcare setting and in radio). And no, unlike Cuomo says, I have not seen essential employees be exempt to this travel ban at all.

The messes I've witnessed with friends and coworkers have generally come in the form of: if a state gets added, what do we do with our employee? If a state is taken off, do they still need to quarantine? Meanwhile the employee is still stuck using all of their own personal time off sitting home as an essential employee while the establishment figures it out, and the county departments of health try to figure it out (because it seems like no-one can make sense of what Cuomo wants, even professional establishments). So like I said, from what I've seen, it's a mess. And plan on having to quarantine or having extra PTO if you have to travel.
