With mounting talks of vaccination for COVID-19, states across the nation are preparing for administering the vaccination to its citizens.  New York state is no different than any other state, we must be prepared for the upcoming vaccination and Governor Cuomo has made an announcement for his draft plan.

Although it’s not ready yet, the governor's office is working hard to make preparations for the COVID-19 vaccination when one is available for US citizens.

As he’s been throughout the entire COVID-19 government response, Governor Cuomo is being very straightforward. He acknowledges that vaccinating millions of people will be a difficult task, but it is a task that he is facing head-on. According to Governor Cuomo said, “I believe this is going to be the hardest operational challenge that we faced since COVID-19 began. The vaccines they are talking about require two doses, 21 to 28 days apart.  So, it would be millions of people twice.  We only did 13 million tests in seven months. How long will it take us to administer 20 million vaccines?”

According to Governor Cuomo‘s draft plan, the government would start with essential healthcare workers, long-term care facility workers and most of their patients. This makes sense since we rely on frontline healthcare workers when we get sick, so they need to be healthy and ready to work.

The second group eligible for vaccinations would be first responders like firefighters, police officers, and people who work with the public in an essential capacity like teachers and grocery store employees.

The next group would be vulnerable adults over 65, people who have underlying health conditions, and all other essential workers. The last group to be vaccinated would be healthy adults and children.

It sounds like there are a lot of variables to be worked out in the process of vaccinating so many people.

We all know that a safe vaccination would be vital to fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.  We cannot afford to have a vaccination that is rushed through the system, but we do need one as soon as possible.  What about you, do you want to be first in line to be vaccinated against COVID-19?
