New York Jet's defensive end, Carl Lawson will have an emotional game on Sunday. The 27 year-old signed a free agent contract with the Jets prior to the 2021 season and was hurt during a non-contact drill during training camp. He has never played a regular season snap for Gang Green. That's special but Lawson has been in the NFL since 2017. Something else will make Sunday an "emotional" game for him.

Al Iannazzone of newsday.com talked to the Jets star defensive end about Sunday and why he is so excited, besides the fact that he is wearing a green uniform. Apparently Lawson’s father, Carl Lawson, Sr, will be at MetLife Stadium to see his son play Sunday. The reason that is so special, according to Iannazzone, when Carl signed his contract with the Jets in 2021, Lawson's family wasn't sure if his father would live much longer.

The article said that Carl Sr. had COVID-19 and was hospitalized for more than two months. “My Dad’s a big part of my life,” Lawson told newsday.com. “My Mom’s coming up too. But you never know. I thought I was going to lose him a while ago right around the time after I signed my contract. I was like, ‘Dang, he wouldn’t even get to see me play as a Jet.’

The Jets edge rusher is going to have a big job in front of him trying to contain Baltimore Raven's mobile quarterback Lamar Jackson. His head coach Robert Saleh has been waiting for over a year to see what Carl Lawson will bring to the Gang Green defense. #58 is all set with all of his priorities in check for Sunday's big game. “I’m going to be focused on the game,” he Al Iannazzone. “I’m not going to be like, ‘Where is Pops at?’ I’ll know he’s got everything coordinated.” If Carl Lawson plays anywhere close to how he played for the Cincinnati Bengals, the Jets defense will be much better this year.
