Dr. Anthony Fauci has been the masked face behind the pandemic and CDC guidelines  for over a year now, but on May 21st he'll be the face of the RPI Commencement ceremony according to News Channel 13.

This is scheduled to be an in-person event for students only and will be the 215th ceremony in the storied history of this fine Rensselaer institution.

A message from the President on their website stated that:

On April 12, 2021, New York State released expanded guidelines related to commencement exercises for higher education institutions. We are able to include all Rensselaer students who are eligible to graduate in May 2021, as well as August 2020 and December 2020 graduates, in this year’s in-person Commencement ceremony. -Shirly Ann Jackson, RPI President

Over the years, RPI has had some pretty interesting and diverse commencement speakers representing a wide range of backgrounds and career fields.

Walter Cronkite did the honors in 1976, Gary Trudeau creator of Doonesbury comic strip spoke in 1986, Bill Nye "The Science Guy" spoke in 1991, Bill Cosby said words in 2001and Hillary Rodham Clinton addressed the graduates in 2005.

During the COVID pandemic, Fauci was one of the lead members of President Donald Trump’s White House Coronavirus Task Force and he is the currently the medical adviser to President Joe Biden.
