The shortage of workers is hitting the entertainment and hospitality industry hard these days. In the past employers liked to hire employees that fit that "All-American" wholesome image that you might see at a Disney park. No piercing, no tattoos, no crazy hair color, and no crazy hairstyles. However, things change.

Now employers are losing their standards on employees that use their bodies for self-expression through tattoos, piercings, and hairstyles. Six Flags Great Escape is the latest employer to announce they are eliminating those dress guidelines.

In a press release spokeswoman Brit Gillespie said, “We have updated our team member dress code policies to allow for more individual expression, while still maintaining a family-friendly environment/atmosphere. Six Flags is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for guests and team members alike,”

There are two things at work here. One, people, in general, are not as freaked out by people with tattoos and piercings anymore. One static showed that more than 30% of people in the United States have at least one tattoo so that stigma isn't there anymore as tattoos and piercing are more commonplace in our society. Number two, there is a real employee crisis right now and employers just can't find enough workers so they have to drop some standards that they adhered to in the past.

In addition to dropping some grooming standards, Six Flags Great Escape is also offering a 10 percent cash bonus to people who start work before today, Thursday, July 1, and stay through Sept. 12. Some of their entry-level positions are starting at $15 an hour.
