A Green Island resident has pleaded guilty to possessing almost 200 videos and images of child pornography and today he was sentenced for his crimes.

Acting United States Attorney Antoinette Bacon and Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI, Thomas F. Relford announced that a Green Island man has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography. Today he appeared in court for sentencing.

According to the FBI, Arthur L. Gurney appeared in court today and admitted that he had 101 videos and 90 images of child pornography on his phone. The 48-year old man was carrying the phone that contained the images when he was arrested. Mr. Gurney arrived at a predetermined location in an attempt to meet a 15-year-old girl when he was arrested.

Mr. Gurney appeared before Senior United States District Judge Thomas J McAvoy for sentencing. Judge McAvoy sentenced Mr. Gurney to 151 months in prison. He also imposed a 15-year term of supervised parole and he was ordered to pay $3000 to each of his victims. There were three under-aged victims involved in the case.

As parents we must always remember to keep a close eye on our children. Predators are everywhere and it is up to us to do everything we can to protect our children. In this case, the suspect admitted that he harmed three children for his own gratification. The trauma of this incident could potentially affect these children for the rest of their lives.
