Last year around Mother’s Day we were only in the beginning stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses were still closed and we were just learning how to deal with the virus. Because so many people were working from home, and travel decreased significantly, gas prices went down also.

Last May gas prices were less than $2.00 per gallon nationally, but that’s all over. Right now gas prices are at an average of $2.97 per gallon, and they are still climbing.

Last year in New York State, the average price for a gallon of gas was $2.16 per gallon. Right now the average gas price in New York is $3.00 per gallon.

The average cost of gas increased 5.9 cents per gallon in just one week in New York. The average cost for a gallon of gas in Albany New York is $2.95 today.

I don’t know about you, but I enjoyed the lower gas prices last year. It’s good to see the economy opening back up, and people are able to get back to work, but $3.00 for a gallon of gas is a lot of money.

People who drive cars that use a lot of gas, like SUVs, most certainly realize the big jump in gas prices. Summertime is coming and people are ready to hit the road, hopefully, they won’t be shocked when they fill up their tanks!
