Does Governor Andrew Cuomo have what it takes to be Time's "Person of the Year" for 2020? So far he has made it to the list of 80 nominees. According to my math Cuomo is ahead of 7.8 billion people in the world, including you and me.

Go online to voice your opinion and cast your vote at Time Magazine but much like the Presidential election the popular vote won't necessarily equate to a winner. Should you exercise your right to vote your opinion will apply to the reader's poll, or the "popular vote". The official voting for "Person of the Year" belongs to the editors of Time, or the "electoral college".

The results of the readers poll will be announced in the next few days but, much like the Presidential election, we will have to wait for the official announcement. Media Star reports that the official "Person of the Year" for 2020 will be revealed Thursday December 10th on NBC during a network television special event.

In another similarity to the Presidential election there has been controversy over the years. One example took place in 1998 when the readers poll identified professional wrestler Mick "Mankind" Foley as "Person of the Year" yet the editors went with the pair of President Bill Clinton and lawyer Ken Star. Readers were outraged as they felt they had the power to name the honor.

So don't hesitate to let your voice be heard. Vote for Doctor Anthony Fauci and essential workers, Taylor Swift, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan or the Black Lives Matter movement. They are all nominees along with Governor Cuomo. Just know it isn't official until the editors say so.

And yes it might not even a person that wins at all. In 1982 the computer won as "Machine of the Year" and in 1956 the Hungarian Freedom Fighters won as a class of people. Last year however, Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg was named "Person of the Year" for 2019 and at 16 years of age was the youngest to be awarded the honor in it's 93 year history.
