Is Notre Dame’s Coach Really Splitting for LSU Now?

According to reports by The Athletic, Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly is leaving the Fighting Irish high and dry, smack in the middle of a possible shot at a National Championship. Kelly is bolting from South Bend, Indiana and heading to Baton Rouge to lead the LSU Tigers for a bundle of cash.

The report says Kelly will sign a 10 year deal worth a cool $100 million plus. The first thing I ask is, 'is it really worth abandoning over a hundred student-athletes, 20 plus coaches that trusted you and their families, and kicking them out at the curb when they need you most? For a contract you could most likely get at the end of the season?' It depends on your moral compass. At Notre Dame you may expect more or not depending who you are. It's a terrific message to our future young leaders of America, 'Hey kids, no matter who is depending on you or what commitments you make, split for the cash as soon as you can!' Well done Coach Kelly.

Notre Dame is ranked #6 in the country and with a wild weekend scheduled this Saturday in college football, the Fighting Irish could quite possibly be one of those final four teams on New Year's Eve. No matter what, the Irish will be featured in a primetime Bowl Game, without their coach.

The Athletic reports that just more than a week ago, Kelly had said "that he wouldn't leave Notre Dame, adding that a fairy godmother coming with a $250 million check might force him to consider it, referencing Mike Tomlin’s dismissal of job reports. Well, the fairy godmother arrived, and she brought gumbo."

The Athletic reported that "Kelly sent a message to Notre Dame in Team Works on Monday night apologizing for the way that the news of his leaving broke and that he wasn't able to tell the team himself." Apparently he was to meet with the team Tuesday at 7 a.m. ET.
