Today, (Friday, June 5), is National Donut day! It's a glorious celebration of that delicious treat that brings a smile to everyone's face....well almost everyone...my daughter hates donuts....I'm not even sure who she is, I mean really, who hates donuts?

So where did the idea for National Donut Day come from and when did it start? I was actually kinda surprised how old this "holiday" is. National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June each year, succeeding the Doughnut Day event created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. By the way, those women of the Salvation Army that served donuts were knows as Donut Dollies.

Even the New York State Police is excited about National Donut Day!
