It's been a hard year for Capital Region foodies.

Between COVID, a post-pandemic slump, supply chain issues, and rising inflation, so many beloved favorites have shuttered their doors permanently in the last few months. Sadly, another Albany standard has announced it will be closing down for good.

What Albany Favorite Is Closing After 13 Years?

The Kitchen Table, formerly known as New World Bistro Bar, will cease operation after Saturday, July 23.

When owners Annette Nanes and Scott Meyer talked to the Times Union, the couple cited staffing problems, Meyer's health issues, and business decline as their reasons for closing. The restaurant has been at 300 Delaware Street in Albany since 2009.

New World Bistro Bar was a venture Nanes and Meyer began with Upstate celebrity chef Ric Orlando that grew into a hub for area eats. Their seasonal menu focused on locally sourced ingredients.

Orlando and the pair parted ways in 2020, and Ian Brower became the Executive Chef. The restaurant briefly closed late last year to undergo a name change, when it became The Kitchen Table.

Besides normal fare, The Kitchen Table also made dishes for vegetarians, vegans and those that eat gluten-free. The restaurant also was one of the Capital Region's proving ground for young chefs, many of whom went on to have successful careers and restaurants of their own in and around Upstate.

So far no official post has been made on The Kitchen Table's Facebook page.
