In the past few years, there have been some major upgrades to Veterans' Park in Amsterdam. It was just announced that another one hundred thousand dollars in state funding will help to build a brand new pool house. Another ten thousand dollars was also received to resurface the basketball courts nearby.

The Veterans' Park pool has been a staple in the community for years and it's time to make the pool house part of the renovations. The pool has been well maintained but the pool house needs to be revamped and moved. They are hoping to move it to a location that will be more convenient to pool-goers. Before entering the pool, residents are required to shower. Where the pool house is now isn't convenient. Residents need to go to the back of the pool area to shower. Officials say they will rebuild the pool house and move it to the other side to accommodate everyone according to the Daily Gazette.

In recent years, the exercise track, soccer field, and amphitheater have all been upgraded or added to Veterans' Park. Now they will rebuild the pool house and resurface the basketball courts. They hope to begin the project this fall.

The pool is open this summer and can be used by Amsterdam residents. It is open seven days a week from 11 am until 5 pm. It is only one dollar per person who enters. That includes swimmers and non-swimmers.

Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
