During his press conference Wednesday, Governor Cuomo announced a plan to ease restrictions on social gatherings.

According to the Governor's website, starting Monday, March 22nd the guidance for outdoor residential social gatherings is being raised to 25 people. The indoor cap will remain at 10 people. Non-residential gatherings are being raised to 100 people indoors and 200 outdoors. In the same conference today the Governor announced plans for entertainment venues to reopen at 33% capacity on April 2nd. These venues will also face similar caps as the non-residential guidelines based on capacity and COVID testing status at events.

The Governor attributed the shift to improving virus numbers, but also encouraged caution and continued diligence as these updated guidelines still call for mask-wearing and social distancing.

This week has certainly been interesting watching different states and their various updated phases of reopening. New York's updated guidelines seem very conservative compared to states like Texas and Mississippi opening completely. While New York's approach seems more conservative, slow and steady may be the best approach as the pandemic still looms. Better to take one step forward without having to go two steps back down the road.
