A Saratoga Springs man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for selling a lethal dose of drugs that killed a man in 2017.

On February 3, 2017, Steven M. Boice sold 50 small envelopes of the drug to a man, only identified as B. L., in Saratoga County. The man died later that day from an overdose of the fentanyl that he ingested.

According to Post Star, Boice pleaded guilty in November 2019 to selling the drugs to the man, in addition to possessing several firearms. Today he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his crimes. The U. S. Attorney's Office announced the sentence on Monday afternoon.

Boice testified that the man was not coherent when the transaction took place, but he sold the drugs to him anyway. He said that the man fell down while leaving so he and his roommate stayed with him until he “snapped back into it“. Unfortunately, the man did not snap back, he died. Coincidentally, several months after B.L.’s death, Boice’s roommate also died of an overdose.

A week after the man’s death, law-enforcement searched Boice’s home and confiscated fentanyl packaged for sale and two loaded firearms.

Attorney Grant C. Jaquith said, “Today’s sentence holds him responsible for the avoidable and senseless death of a young man and the daily pain and suffering of that man’s wife and family. Heroin and fentanyl dealers should take notice that they are accountable for the overdoses of their customers, and a 20-year prison term could be in their future.“

We send our condolences to the families involved.
