There's a lot to like about the State of New York.

Depending on where you live, you can find completely different environments in the same state. The same state that houses the "City That Never Sleeps", also has hundreds of miles of rarely-disturbed nature. There's something for everyone, no matter where you turn.

Now, keep in mind, this is coming from someone who lives in the state. If you were to compare what we have in New York, to what other people have in their home state, how would the Empire State stack up against the rest?

The news database U.S. News and World Report did a comprehensive study on each of the 50 states in the Union, and published their findings online. They looked into the infrastructure, health care, economy and other major aspects of each state, and created rankings comparing each of the 50 states to one another.

So, we dug into their rankings, and took a look at where New York ranked against its peers in the nine different categories listed by U.S. News. We broke down the rankings for each of the categories below.

As is natural with rankings of this magnitude, the results for New York were varied. In some categories, the state stood out among its peers as one of the best in the country. Others, however, saw New York toward the bottom of the list. With a state of this size, and with this much cultural and environmental diversity, a bit of variance is to be expected.
