Following the tragic passing of 'Jeopardy!' host Alex Trebek, the show began auditioning guest hosts to replace the legendary Trebek on a full-time basis. Celebrities from across news media, entertainment and sports served their time behind the podium, vying to become the "next" Alex Trebek. After months of rotating hosts, the show has named its next full-time host. The sentiment of fans, by and large, is this:

WHO?!

The "who" that will be standing behind the podium for the foreseeable future, is 'Jeopardy!' executive producer, Mike Richards. Richards was one of the first guest hosts when the show returned to air, hosting from February 22nd through March 5th, 2021. Richards had taken over as executive producer of both Jeopardy! and "Wheel of Fortune" for the 2020-21 television season, and has a deep history in game shows.

Fans, however, aren't pleased with the decision. Here are some of my favorite reactions.

There were THOUSANDS to choose from. Twitter is having itself a time with this news.

Now, allow me to speak on Mike Richards' behalf, for a moment. He actually is an accomplished game show host, with hosting credits including shows like Beauty and the Geek, The Pyramid and Divided. He was also a candidate to replace Bob Barker as host of The Price is Right, before Drew Carey received the gig.

That being said, 'Jeopardy!' went through the motions of auditioning hosts, and got fans excited about the potential names that could enjoy the show. The biggest buzz was created by LeVar Burton, who is beloved by multiple generations across multiple genres, and comes from a background in literary entertainment.

At the end of the day, Richards was the one that was chosen, and 'Jeopardy!' fans will have to learn to love him for who he is....the new Alex Trebek.
