While the Christmas tree on display at NYC's Rockefeller Center has been met with criticism for it's less than stellar looks, the cute furry little owl that was recently found living inside the tree has been cherished and adored.  Ever since we saw his head poking up at us from inside the box they placed him him, our hearts melted.  While the tree itself, donated by a farm in Oneonta, is viewed by many as the sad Charlie Brown-looking tree that 2020 should have, the Saw-whet owl they named "Rockefeller" has been adored and cherished.  And while the owl is spectacular, let's not forget nobody would give a hoot about that owl if it not for that ugly tree

As concern began to pour in over the birds safety, many people wondered what wildlife experts should do with it.   Should "Rockefeller" be returned to his native Oneonta, or should the little critter get to experience life in the Big City?  It's got the makings of a Disney smash written all over it.  Hear me out:  Albeit it lopsided and fugly, this less than perfect tree is loaded with knowledge and savvy but has a short lease on life.  The naïve small town owl - curious as he is cuddly -  needs that tree in order to find it's way through the massive concrete jungle that is NYC.  Rockefeller needs the tree for guidance and support, but stripped of his flashing pretty lights and fancy decorations and slowing down considerably, old Norway spruce has just a few days left till he becomes firewood.

Anyway, I digress.  Back to the owl.

According to their Facebook page, the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center , Rockefeller who has been sheltered since Wednesday is doing quite well.   "His eyes are bright and seems relatively in good condition with all he’s been through. Once he checks in with the vet and gets a clean bill of health, he’ll be released to continue on his wild and wonderful journey," they wrote.

So for now, I believe we oughta ease up on the criticism of the tree.  Sure that spruce has got more patches than a bad combover and who cares if it leans to the side like it's been popped by a pellet gun, that ol' tree has knowledge and wisdom and it gave us the owl.

And maybe someday a cute Disney movie that I'll make millions of off for stealing this idea.
