I love new stores that open up in the area, especially when they are not chain or box stores. So if you have a cat or looking for a gift for the cat lover in your life, there is a purrfect (had to use it) spot for you to shop!

The Spicy Purrito specializes in homemade catnip toys and is located on Jay Street in Schenectady. Owner Tonya Hall began making homemade toys in 2017, making all the toys and choosing fabrics to match colors and themes.

Tonya says she has always been a cat person and has gotten cat-themed birthday cards for over four decades. The Spicy Purrito is not Tonya's only job. She works full-time at the New York State Lottery while she operates her store. The store is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends or by appointment. The Spicy Purrito will also be open during select downtown Schenectady events.

So how did Tonya come up with the name Spicy Purrito? She says a purrito is a cat wrapped in a blanket, which looks like a burrito. A spicy purrito is an angry cat wrapped in a blanket.

There are not too many cat-specific stores in the area, so this would be the purrfect place to shop, and I recommend you do it right meow! (I had to do it again)
