Tuesday, August 30th was roster cuts day in the National Football League.

As such, teams across the league were tasked with trimming down their rosters to the mandatory 53-player limit. Dozens of players were handed metaphorical pink slips today, and were informed that their services would no longer be needed with their respective squads.

The New York Giants, Jets and Buffalo Bills all had to do this today, and in the process, released a few players that raised the eyebrows of fans. Will some of these players come back to haunt the Empire State's teams? We take a look at five possible examples here.

Buffalo Bills Cut TE O.J. Howard

Howard was one of the higher-profile offseason signings for the Super Bowl-hopeful Bills, as his contract was worth over $3 million. The Bills chose to eat that money after only five months of Howard's services, leaving their tight-end position very thin behind starter, Dawson Knox. Will they end up missing his depth?

New York Jets Cut RB La'Mical Perine

One of two surprising cuts made in the backfield for the New York Jets, Gang Green parted ways with third-year running back La'Mical Perine. Perine struggled to stay on the field in 2021, rushing just eight times after showing potential in 2020. With the addition of Breece Hall, Perine appears to be deemed a non-option as a depth running back, but does New York have the depth to replace him?

New York Giants Cut WR Alex Bachman

Will the New York Giants feel the impact of cutting Alex Bachman? I'm not sure, but few players performed better in the preseason for Big Blue than Bachman. The Giants chose to hang onto veteran wideouts like Kenny Golladay and Darius Slayton, at the expensive of a younger wide receiver like Bachman.

While that makes sense on paper, if Golladay and Slayton struggle, you wonder if Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll and company would begin to prefer seeing new faces in action.

New York Jets Cut RB Tevin Coleman

The other half of the backfield cuts by the Jets today, New York chose to part ways with veteran running back Tevin Coleman. Coleman spent his seventh year in the NFL with New York, and served as a decent change-of-pace back behind starter Michael Carter last season.

The addition of the aforementioned Hall probably has a bigger impact on Coleman than Perine, as any scraps left behind by Michael Carter are now Breece Hall's to lose. That said, does Ty Johnson provide a better option as a third-string? We'll have to find out.

New York Giants Cut QB Davis Webb

Let me make a small addendum to this: I will be shocked if Davis Webb does not return to the Giants in *some* capacity. Webb was brought in as a quarterbacks coach-type mentor for New York, but in the process, was lauded for his on-field performance, and reportedly operated New York's offense better than both Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor.

He'll be back in some way, shape or form. The only question is, if he only returns as a coach, will Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka miss having him on the roster?

Head coach Jim Fassel and company used the facilities at the University at Albany each preseason for over a decade, as some of the best Big Blue beasts tore it up in the Capital Region before taking the field in the NFL.

10 New York Jets That Can Lead Gang Green To The Playoffs

Can the New York Jets return to the NFL playoffs for the first time in more than a dozen years? Can Zach Wilson be the quarterback that GM Joe Douglas dreamed he would be? Can Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson turn the Jets defense into a contender? That answer to "can" they is yes. The answer to "will" they may be yes as well!
