Home cookin' will hopefully mean a lot. It hasn't been on the menu for Coach Greg Gattuso and his team very often this season. The UAlbany Great Danes will be home for back to back weekends for the first time this year, as the team hosts Maine for their annual ‘Pink Game’ to raise awareness for breast cancer and the American Cancer Society. The Great Dane fan base is also hoping that this will be the game where their team turns the corner with a victory.

Coach Greg Gattuso, who appears each week on The Drive with Charlie and Dan, is part of the Capital Region American Cancer Society Real Men Wear Pink Campaign. It means a lot to Coach Gattuso and he works hard at making the event a success on and off the field. “The ‘Pink Game’ has always been great for us. It’s a great way to get people to come out and to raise money for a great cause. This year I’ve been an ambassador for it and we’ve raised over $6,000. All in all, it’s a great game, a great day. The guys can put survivors’ names on the back of their helmets, which I think is just awesome.”

The Maine comes to Tom & Mary Casey Stadium with a 2-4 mark overall, so far going 1-3 in conference play. The Black Bears defeated CAA foe William & Mary last week in Orono for homecoming 27-16 for their first CAA victory of the year. Maine forced three turnovers while snapping W&M’s four game win streak, racking up over 400 total yards of offense in the process. The only other Maine win this season has come against Merrimack College back in September by a final score of 31-26. The team has taken losses from Delaware (then #5), James Madison (then #3), Northern Illinois, and Elon.

Maine gives up a lot of points. The Great Danes are hunting for that first win, after a season of tough CAA losses. I'd like to see UAlbany ride running back Karl Mofar and pound the ball on the ground. This game has all of the makings for a big victory for the Danes. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. and you can hear Rodger Wyland and Eric Hannmann from Big Board Sports on the play by play and color on 104.5 FM The Team ESPN Radio. Thanks to Taylor O'Connor from UAlbany Athletics for the photos and information.
