After missing last year due to the pandemic, the rides will run and the powdered sugar will fly once again at the Washington County Fair this summer.

I bet you can smell and taste that dog food bowl of fair french fries, covered in ketchup or vinegar right now. Or maybe you can see yourself walking through a cloud of fried dough powdered sugar so thick the air smells sweet.

It is more great news for the summer ahead as another one of our great local county fairs has set its dates for 2021. The Washington Country Fair announced on their Facebook page today this year's week-long event will take place Monday, August 23rd through Sunday, August 29th. The Fair did say, like other fairs in the state, organizers "...are still waiting for the official guidance from Albany to move forward with...reopening plans." So while the plan is to have all the rides, food, agricultural exhibits, and fair events you know and love - exactly how the fair will execute everything is still a work in progress.

Several other local fairs, including Altamont and Schaghticoke, are also planning to return this summer. At the rate we are going with everything reopening, I think it is safe to assume by the time we get to these events, while things may not be 100 percent wide open, fairgoers should have pretty reasonable access to all these events have to offer. And with vaccinations starting to come into play on larger events, they could also facto into different scenarios of the fairs accommodating more attendees.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
