Baseball schedulers couldn't have scripted the 2021 baseball season any better. A storybook ending for the American League Wild Card race will maybe somehow would put the icing on the COVID 19 plagued season. Maybe it will make the players forget the impending termination of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the untrustworthy owners. Nah but the final week will be WILD!

What is happening this weekend is the first of 9 crucial games for the New York Yankees, 3 in Boston followed by 3 in Toronto and then back home for 3 meaningless games for the Tampa Bay Rays. Those 3 may have a lot of meaning for the Bronx Bombers. Manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman are banking on this team holding tight to their clutch on a Wild Card spot.

The best way for New York to secure a playoff spot is to sweep the Red Sox in Boston. That will be no easy task. The Sox have won 7 straight and are playing great baseball at the right time. The Yankees luck out that Chris Sale pitched against the Mets on Wednesday. Gerrit Cole, Nester Cortes, Jr. and Jordan Montgomery will take the mound for the pinstripes this weekend. It will be all hands on deck for every game from Friday until October 3rd. The bullpen got a huge boost with the additions of Luis Severino and Domingo German.

It's not the pitching that worries me for the Yankees, it's their bats. The Bombers need DJ Lemahieu and Anthony Rizzo to set the table and get on base. Aaron Judge will hit. He has all season, as will Giancarlo Stanton. Now the rest have to step up. Joey Gallo needs a few big hits this weekend, as does Gleyber Torres.

The time is now. The Yankees need to go into to Boston and show the Red Sox and the baseball world that they are a team to be reckoned with.
