Governor Cuomo is Sending 1000 National Guard Troops to D.C.
The National Guard officials sent out the call yesterday to nearby states that they needed additional troops on the ground in Washington D.C. after the events of yesterday at the Capitol. Governor Cuomo is answering that call with 1000 New York National Guard troops being sent to Washington D.C.
At the request of the U.S. National Guard, I’m deploying 1,000 members of the NY National Guard to D.C. for up to 2 weeks.

It was obvious that after yesterday’s attack on the Capitol Building that additional security forces were needed to protect the democratic process of confirming former Vice President Biden as our next President. With almost two weeks until Biden’s inauguration, there will be other opportunities for civil unrest. The officials in Washington D.C. were obviously unprepared and overwhelmed by the rioters. Hopefully, with more boots on the ground, the next two weeks will be peaceful.
Governor Cuomo made this statement after the riot at the Capitol Building yesterday, ““The cornerstone of our democracy is the peaceful transfer of power. We must call this what it actually is: a failed attempt at a coup. This is the final chapter of an incompetent, cruel, and divisive administration that has trampled on the Constitution and the rule of law at every turn, and we won’t let President Trump, the members of Congress who enable him, or the lawless mob that stormed our nation’s Capitol steal our democracy. The election results are clear and the will of the American people will be carried out.”
